Flavor Flav may be the most famous hypeman, but you definitely can’t forget folks like Spliff Star (Busta Rhymes’ hypeman), Fatman Scoop (original party starter) and DJ Kool, whose “Let Me Clear My Throat” is pretty much the essence of what a hypeman is all about. Footage from last year’s competition, judged by SKillz, DJ Clark Kent and Anthony Marshall (founder of Lyricist Lounge), is at the Scion Hypeman contest website. Prepare to laugh your arse off. While we’re not sure what Sabotage’s competition looks like, we do know that another Denverite, Hypeman P, is also competing in the finals this week. We always root for the hometown, so we’ll let you know the results. Check out Sabotage’s audition after the jump.

Founded by Scion in 2007 to support young, emerging filmmakers, Scion Easy 10 gives up-and-coming visual artists a chance to shoot a short film on a topic of their choice. This year, Scion will be switching up the format by selecting ten media outlets to express their creativity through film. Scion allotted each filmmaker three months and a modest budget to transform their idea into a cinematic reality.

Scion is promoting Easy 10 and the individual filmmakers with an Easy 10 Compilation DVD, Easy 10 launch parties and screenings in New York City and Los Angeles, individual electronic press kits, and trips for each of the filmmakers to two film festivals of their choice.

Thanks to Scion’s ongoing artistic endeavors, Easy 10 filmmakers have an opportunity to express themselves through a medium many do not normally work in. Their films will be a testament to their hard work and creativity, and pieces of art to be enjoyed by all.

Admit it – you’ve wasted plenty of work hours fiddling with web-based games, when you should have been doing something more productive – like making some of your own. With its new Kongregate Labs community site, freeware web browser gaming portal Kongregate is gunning to teach the average Joe the basics of flash game development.

Inspired by the in-house creation of a game simply called Shoot!, the site has launched the first batch in a series of detailed “shootorials” that walk you through the step-by-step process of developing a side-scrolling shooter. The project is sponsored by Scion and utilizes a free trial version of Adobe Flash CS3 to make the tutorial game. A dedicated Kongregage Labs forum provides an avenue for budding developers to bounce ideas off one another, troubleshoot issues that arise, and discuss the game creation process.

Kongregate is also running a “Driving Creativity Contest” with cash prizes to spur new game development. As the full set of “shootorials” are not yet available – new batches go live each week – entries for the month long contest will be accepted starting Oct. 28. That should give hopeful competitors some time to dive in and start concocting their diabolical flash game masterpieces. The final day to submit game entries into the contest is Nov. 28.

Behold: a simple way to learn how to develop flash games for free. What are you waiting for?

We had owners from all over the country, all super bad and all super different. There was a great group of people — all brought together by what makes us different. And the party was wheels-off too. Flo Rida and Red Man killed it. Thanks to all of you. Enjoy the pictures, and don’t forget to visit the site often because we’ll be adding videos and more pictures soon.

Looking for something to do this week, but don’t have the cash to do anything major? If you’re in California, there are some good free shows coming your way. Or, if you’re in Cleveland with a little extra scratch on your hands, you can’t go wrong with The Black Keys, pictured above.

First, the freebies. Norwegian electrosex rock outfit 120 Days is teaming up with automaker Scion for a couple Cali concerts this week that will cost you nothing — if you can get on the list, that is. The first is Tuesday in San Francisco at 330 Ritch, and the second is on Wednesday in Los Angeles at the Viper Room. These shows are invite-only affairs for the 21-and-over crowd, so click the links above and add your name and email address to get one. We recommend getting there early, since space is limited and entry’s not guaranteed. That’s a lot of variables, but that’s what you get for free.

If you’ve got cash or credit on hand despite the current economic downturn, a better bet might be checking out The Black Keys’ secret show in Cleveland — one of the recession’s hardest hit cities — on Wednesday May 7. This time around, the corporate team-up is with MySpace, which is putting on the show as part of the Secret Shows series that has in the past featured other stellar bands like Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, The Gossip and the incredible No Age.
The sonics kick off at the Beachland Tavern, but you better get involved early, as the place only fits about 170 people. Seeing that The Black Keys (along with No Age) have released one of the best albums of the year, expect it to be packed to the rafters.
