Thank you for visiting ScionNews.Net! You may notice that the site has a whole new look and feel. Not only is there a new design, but a lot of functionality has been added. Take a look at the new user friendly structure on the front page that displays the top news from various categories. You can also switch between popular news, recent news, latest comments and tags.

Visitors who leave comments will no longer need to register first. You will also benefit from various options that have been added that will allow you, if you have a blog, to leave an additional link to your latest post, top commentators are listed, and the NoFollow attribute has been removed.

So, please take a look around and let us know what you think. Please keep in mind that there still may be changes coming, but most of the work is done…

Thank you for your support!

If you haven’t been to Scion.com in the past couple days, you haven’t seen the new site design. The background of the site is video from the Scion United event in Nevada and various commercials, including the Scion xB wrecking ball ad, and can be switched from “wild” to “mild.” It’s a very entertaining, multimedia driven site and presumably quite demanding for slow connections, or older computers. The video background is pixelated, due to it being full screen, but is attractive nonetheless. Some are saying that the site is also throwing up errors, so there still may be work to be done, though I haven’t come across any myself. Overall, it’s a fun, flashy, and very different car site.

Leading Web design, vehicle inventory management, marketing and intelligence solution provider DataOne/XIGroup, a division of Dominion Enterprises, today announced the launch of a new behavioral marketing platform and Web site redesign for Acton Toyota Scion’s award-winning www.ActonToyota.com.

“Last year, Auto Dealer Monthly recognized ActonToyota.com as the #1 rated dealer site in the country. Our goal with the redesign was to provide an even more enriched shopping experience for consumers,” said Matt Lamoureux, director of marketing and e-commerce for Acton Toyota. “DataOne/XIGroup and their Web site design team delivered exactly that. I couldn’t be any more satisfied with the results.”

The ActonToyota.com redesign includes enhancements in search engine optimization, visual presentation and a new community page with a scrolling photo gallery. The new elements have been built on top of an advanced behavioral marketing technology that automatically matches content to a visitor’s vehicle interest. The site, which went live earlier this month, is already generating significant increases in visits, return visits and page views.

“Acton Toyota Scion is an industry leader in Internet marketing, ” said Joe High, general manager of DataOne/XIGroup. “This new site not only reflects their commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction and maintaining a competitive edge, it sets new benchmarks in dealership Web site design.”

The new Web site platform features state-of-the-art behavioral engineering which enables site content such as photos, advertisements, inventory, specials and testimonials to change dynamically based on user interest. For example, when a consumer Googles “Tundras Acton” and clicks on the www.ActonToyota.com listing, the site’s home page will appear already populated with enriched Tundra content to help consumers more easily find the information they are looking for.

Visitor behavioral profiles remain active for up to 30 days. Whenever the consumer returns to the site, the previous vehicle/consumer matched content is shown. The content also updates when the buyer finds new vehicles of interest while navigating through the site.

“We’re getting the right messages to the right customers at the right times,” said Lamoureux. “It’s a better shopping experience for the buyer that’s also resulting in an increased volume of leads for the dealership.”

DataOne/XIGroup has also eliminated the need for iFrames, making all content on the site search engine friendly. IFrames are HTML documents embedded into a Web site from a remote external source, such as vehicle data from an OEM site. Data contained in an iFrame cannot be read by search engines. As a result, if a buyer searches for a particular car, and the dealer only has information about that vehicle in an iFrame, the dealership won’t appear on the search results. By turning imported iFrame content into organic site content, it can be read and indexed by search engines, which makes the site more accessible to consumers and drives more traffic to the dealership.

Another enhancement is a new and simpler Quick Quote form that makes submissions fast and easy. After the form has been submitted, an automated response is generated letting the consumer know that their request has been received, appreciated and will be well handled in a timely manner.

Acton Toyota Scion, is an independently owned dealership located in Acton, Massachusetts. For 17 consecutive years the company has won Toyota Motor Sales prestigious President’s Award for excellence in sales performance and customer service. The company is ranked #40 on Ward’s e-Dealer 100 list.

To say the Scion Hako Concept went over poorly with the Jalopnik staff would be something of an understatement. Every time we checked the front page we’d recoil in horror as the Hako scrolled past on the screen. It became the generic stake by which other cars were measured. “At least it’s not the Hako” was heard more than once. Now, considering the depth of photochopping skill we see <del>from Chrysler</del> here on a daily basis, we’re betting you guys can do better than the awkward and boxy “American vintage style” Scion touted at the New York Auto Show.

Instead of being only a contest for Photoshop whiz kids, for this one, we’ll be giving bonus points to those who use the crudest software drawing package. If you send us a design using ASCII, you’ve got a better chance at winning than the guy using MSPaint who has a leg up on the guy using Photoshop. This is not to say the people using P-Shop can’t win. Perhaps he or she uses a design completely consisting of a mosaic of kittens duplicated with the stamp tool. Be creative, be inventive, be original, and use curves, heavens knows Scion didn’t. Send us your submissions via a post on this thread, or directly to myself at the address (ben@jalopnik.com) on the sidebar by Wednesday of next week. We’ll cull the initial entries and let you all vote on the winner, then that lucky artist will see both of those sweet Scion hats arriving by mail for the efforts. Good luck, and may the best crappiest design win.
