We’re not sure what’s more ridiculous – building a 700-horsepower Scion TC or the gargantuan front wing such a car needs to put all that power to the ground. We pray to the gods of aerodynamics that this doesn’t catch on but fear we’ll soon see wings like this at Pep Boys alongside fart-bomb mufflers.

Say what you will about its looks, the wing works. World Racing recently destroyed the competition at the Redline Time Attack race at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park in Rosamond, Calif. Chris Rado drove the supercharged Scion to a first-place finish in the Front Wheel Drive Unlimited Class. He posted a class-record lap time of 1:22.623 and even dusted some rear-wheel driver cars to take fifth overall.

“Oh, the front wing, ha-ha, some people said it was crazy. Some people didn’t think we were serious, but the numbers speak for themselves,” World Racing said in a statement on its website.

Touché, fellas. We admire your innovation. But make sure you have that thing bolted down tight, because the only thing uglier than a front wing would be watching it fly through a windshield at 100 mph.

The 2008 Redline Time Attack season has commenced and with a total of 90 points stemming from three event wins, Chris Rado and WORLD Racing have won the Unlimited FWD Championship.

The first Redline Time Attack event that WORLD Racing competed in was July 19-20 in Fontana, California. Chris was ready to take on the challenge of racing on the huge oval track known as California Speedway.

Knowing that Chris would be driving the oval at speeds up to around 170 mph and that a stock Scion tC was never designed to go that fast, the WORLD Racing team had to make some modifications to insure that the car would be up for the job. And up for the job it sure was as, by the end of the event, the tC left the track in one piece with the top Unlimited FWD time of the weekend; an incredible time of 1:47.3, which was a full six seconds faster than any other car in his class.

After the successful weekend, Chris and the team were extremely excited for the next Redline Time Attack event where they would be invading Nashville Speedway, another big NASCAR oval.

The next weekend in Nashville, Chris soon learned that the Nashville Motor Speedway track was a much shorter and tighter course than he was used to, meaning he would have to adjust his normal racing style. Knowing that he was definitely going to have his work cut out for him, Chris was ready for the challenge and had his aim set on another 1st place finish.

Over the weekend, Chris laid down a lap time of 1:05.5, which was just a tenth of a second behind the track record for a production body vehicle. By receiving this time, which was five seconds faster than any other FWD competitor at the event, Chris and the WORLD Racing team were awarded 1st place in the Unlimited FWD Class and were also 2nd place overall at the event. And to put the icing on the cake, Chris and the WORLD Racing Scion tC now held the new track record for the fastest FWD lap time at Nashville Motor Speedway.

With two Redline Time Attack wins under their belts, Chris Rado and the rest of the WORLD Racing team were excited to arrive at Summit Point Raceway, ready to get on the Shenandoah track and attempt a third series win.

“Attempt” turned into “accomplished” as Chris got out on the track and ran a 1:36.2. This time was enough for WORLD Racing to win the Unlimited FWD 1st place spot. This time was also the record fastest time for a FWD vehicle at Summit Point’s Shenandoah circuit.

“It has been a great season for our team and we are so honored to be taking first place,” says Chris. “I’d like to thank Redline Time Attack for putting on these events, and of course my sponsors, fans, and friends for their unconditional support all season long. I can’t wait till next year!”

WORLD Racing made their way to the last official Battle of the Imports event of the 2008 season this past weekend at the hot California Dragway. Chris Rado would be going head-to-head with Marty Ladwig to compete for the second place position in the points race for the PRO FWD Championship. However, Ladwig trailed the WORLD Racing team by 76 points going into the weekend’s race. Chris and the rest of the team were still hot off their win at Battle of the Imports in Woodburn, Oregon three weekends earlier and weren’t going to let anyone get in their way of a successful weekend and a 2nd place series finish.

Saturday morning, Chris and the WORLD Racing PRO FWD Scion tC lined up for the first round of qualifying and ran a 7.58 ET at 193 mph. Not a bad way to start the day.

In the second round of qualifying, the track was a bit hotter as Chris backed up his first time with a 7.61 ET at 191 mph.

Going into the third qualifier of the day, which happened to be during the evening, the track temperatures had dropped. Chris managed to put down a 7.57 ET at 196.8 mph, which was not only the best ET of the weekend for the WORLD Racing team, but also the team’s highest mile-per-hour thus far of the season.

After three terrific and consistent qualifying runs, there were no signs of fatigue coming from the WORLD Racing Scion tC. Even better, Chris was in the number one qualifying spot.

Sunday morning, the team was prepared to lay down a faster qualifying run if by chance Ladwig ran an ET higher than theirs the day before. But due to Ladwig’s car problems, the WORLD Racing Scion tC did not need to complete another run and remained the 1st place qualifier.

For the first round of eliminations, Chris laid down a 7.54 ET at 193.5 mph, which become the WORLD Racing team’s new fastest ET of the weekend. The team was just getting faster and faster every round!

For the final round, Ladwig and Chris lined up ready to battle it out for the top podium position. Chris launched first and was ahead of Marty until he reached third gear, where Ladwig started to creep up, passing him before the finish line.

Chris had run a 7.49 ET at 195.8 mph, which was his absolute best run of the weekend. His time was a mere 0.19 seconds behind Ladwig.

Chris and WORLD Racing had finished in 2nd place for the weekend’s event and in 2nd place overall for the Battle of the Imports season.

“The WORLD Racing Scion tC was the most consistent car at the event and the most consistent it has ever been,” says Chris. “It’s been a great weekend, a great season, and I can’t wait till next year. With the modifications that the team will be making to the car, it will be an unstoppable machine to be feared next year. Thank you to all my sponsors, fans, and friends who have supported me through such a great season.”

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – Chris Rado and WORLD Racing made their way to Moroso Motorsports Park for the second event of the NOPI sanctioned by NHRA Drag Racing series. This event marked the first opportunity for WORLD Racing to launch the 1800 hp PRO FWD SCION tC down the track after the months of intense labor that went into it’s build.

Chris made his first test pass on Friday which was extremely successful considering all the changes the SCION tC had undergone. “I was very surprised how well the first pass went; usually it takes twenty to thirty runs just to get the car dialed in,” says Chris. “But the WORLD Racing team was pretty dead-on with the initial set-up.”

During the second test pass there was an issue with the transmission forcing the WORLD Racing team to remove and rebuild it. The SCION tC was fixed that evening and was ready to battle the next day.

Going into qualifying on Saturday, Chris and the team were very excited to see the WORLD Racing SCION tC make a pass. The car felt great to Chris when he launched it on the first qualifying pass, but the monster power of the SCION tC’s engine caused the clutch to slip. Chris decided to abort the run.

For the final qualifying pass, Chris and the SCION tC were ready to give it their all. After laying down a massive burnout, Chris had his eyes set on the finish line. The car launched flawlessly and earned the time of 7.80 seconds at 183 MPH. Chris and the team knew they could run a better time with a little more boost.

Sunday morning came and the crew was very excited for eliminations. With some tricks up their sleeves, the WORLD Racing team was very confident they could do better than the 7.80 they received the day prior.

For the first round of eliminations, Chris was ready to run against Gary Gardella. When the lights came down the tree, Chris had a better than perfect launch. “It seemed as if I had just destroyed him at the light; when the lights came down the SCION tC slingshot ahead of him two or three car lengths immediately,” says Chris.

At the half track point, Chris was still a half-car length ahead of Gardella. Slowly, however, the lead faded and Gardella passed him. After reviewing the data they realized that a boost issue was the cause of slowing up the SCION tC and giving Gardella the win.

When Chris received his time slip, he was ecstatic to find out that he actually had the best 60-foot time of the weekend by almost a tenth of a second. Even better, he had earned the best 60-foot time ever for a FWD racecar in history at Moroso Motorsports Park.

This record, as well as the entire weekend, was a great success for Chris and the rest of the WORLD Racing team. “I definitely think the other teams know it is just a matter of time before we get all the kinks worked out and the SCION PRO FWD team will be on top,” says Chris. Chris would like to thank his sponsors, fans, friends, and family for their amazing support. Next up on the WORLD Racing nationwide takeover – Hot Import Nights in Austin, Texas.

In previous issues, Chris was featured in the articles “Ridin’ with Rado” and “Ridin’ with Rado V2.0”, which gave a glimpse into the WORLD Racing Time Attack car and the team’s preparation for the intense upcoming 2008 season.

For Volume 4 – which is appropriately named the “Technology Issue” – the Carbon8 staff chose to investigate Chris’s “Spy Car” in an attempt to learn some 007 tricks and techniques that even make James Bond himself jealous.

Chris is glad that his “Spy Hunter” got a chance to be featured in Carbon8 and hopes that you will check out the article along with the rest of the awesome issue.

Next up on the WORLD Racing tour – the team heads to NOPI Drag racing at Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach, Florida this weekend, April 5/6, 2008. They plan to prove once again that with the 1800hp PRO FWD SCION tC in their corner, they will truly be the team to beat over the weekend. Chris and WORLD Racing thank you for your support!

Chris Rado and his WORLD Racing team were in full effect at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park for the National Auto Sport Association time trial season opener. This event brought out almost 250 racecars ranging in variety all the way from Pro Trucks to Super Unlimited Cars to Honda Challenge Cars to dual motorcycle-engine powered full-chassis cars.

Chris came to this event with the intentions of dusting off and testing his 650 hp Scion tC in order to make proper adjustments to the changes made since the car was last run in August at Road Atlanta. It’s amazing what just a little dusting can do – Chris jumped in his tC and broke his own FWD Unlimited Class time trial record of 1.29.34 seconds. Not only did he break the record, but he basically poured gasoline on it, lit a match, and watched it explode when he set the new Willow Springs FWD track record of 1.27.30 – more than a two second improvement!

The WORLD Racing Scion tC ran three full sessions over the weekend – two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The team had a late start Saturday while pushing to get the car aligned, weight balanced, and ready for its driver. Commenting on his record breaking time, Chris says, “I know the car has another two or three seconds faster in it. With a little more test time over this weekend, I know we could have done it.”

Breaking the FWD record was not the only achievement of the weekend for WORLD Racing. Chris and his Scion tC won the “bragging rights” as the fastest time of a production vehicle all weekend!

For the 2008 season, Chris will be running his Scion tC for the Super Lap Battle Series where he will be competing with some of the best drivers of the nation. Chris looks forward to the challenge and he and his team are very optimistic they will set more track records in the exciting season to come.

“All in all it was a great weekend,” says Chris. “This is a great start for myself and WORLD racing – we are extremely excited and hungry for more wins! I am lucky to have the support of amazing sponsors, fans, family and friends – they are the true backbone behind the great season to come!”
