Scion recently launched its “United by Individuality” brand campaign, which reinvents the brand’s distinctiveness by communicating several of its core philosophies - creativity, personalization, authenticity, and community.The campaign also celebrates Scion owners as it demonstrates Scions as blank canvases for customization through unique treatments of actual owner vehicles in cinema, cable, print, online and out of home advertising.

Coming off of two consecutive wins, Chris Rado and the WORLD Racing team were very excited to be heading to Nashville Motor Speedway for another Redline Time Attack event. The Nashville Motor Speedway track is a much shorter and tighter course than Chris is used to, which meant he would be using second and third gear coming out of the turns; this is difficult for the tC because it is such a high-horsepower car. But even with knowing that he was definitely going to have his work cut out for him this weekend, Chris was ready for the challenge and had his aim set on another 1st place finish.

The Spot: A wrecking ball sweeps back and forth, barely missing a pair of identical cars parked just beyond the two ends of its arc. An off-screen child’s voice intones, “He loves me, he loves me not” as the ball swings closer and closer to the cars. Finally, one of the cars gets smashed, and the camera trains its eye on the carcass. “Love it or loathe it,” says the narrator. “The 2008 Scion xB.” (Click here to watch the ad.)
Generally, ads portray products as pristine treasures. Lighting and camera angles conspire to conjure a glossy, gotta-have-it glow that beams out from laptops, cell phones, blue jeans, and hamburgers. Thus it’s jarring to come across an ad like this one, in which the product is first obliterated and then put on display as a crumpled mess.

Chris Rado and WORLD Racing were extremely excited going into their first Redline Time Attack event of the season. Chris was especially excited that he was going to be driving on the huge oval track known as California Speedway.
“The team and I were very pumped up to be at this event,” says Chris, “especially coming off a win in Willow Springs last weekend.”

Over the weekend, Chris Rado and WORLD Racing traveled to Willow Springs International Raceway for Super Lap Battle. Chris and the WORLD Racing Scion tC always compete in the Unlimited FWD class, but Chris likes to think that they are actually competing with all the classes for the best time of the weekend. “Competing with RWD and AWD cars with extremely talented drivers is very challenging,” says Chris, “and that’s exactly what we are in the business for.”

A motorized creation of the University of Virginia’s engineering school will be featured in a Discovery Science Channel special called “Robocars” Monday night.
Team Jefferson’s robotic car, the “Tommy 2,” was a joint creation between Virginia students and Charlottesville-based business Perrone Robotics.
