Hundreds of Scion owners, from a variety of states, are expected to converge on Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway, May 16-17, as part of the automotive manufacturer's Scion Exposed '08 tour. Typically held in locations in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States, Scion Exposed provides Scion owners a unique opportunity to gather and meet other passionate owners, while enjoying an assortment of great food and entertainment - compliments of Scion. Three guys who set out from New England this week in a car and on a mission to visit all Lower 48 states as quickly as legally possible ticked off their final states in a flash this evening, arriving where four of them meet at the same point on the map. "The Great American Road Trip" began Sunday in Vermont and in an unofficial record wound its way through all four dozen states, with the briefest of stops Wednesday in Minnesota.

The federal safety agency is about to pull the trigger on a new roof crush standard.And Senator Mark Pryor (D-Arkansas) is not at all happy with it. He has scheduled hearings on the issue for June 4. Pryor is chair of the Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs, Insurance, and Automotive Safety. The current roof crush standard requires the roof to support 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) new proposed standard would require roofs to support 2.5 times the weight of the vehicle.

Japan-based auto manufacturer Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. (TM) announced a 4.5% fall in its April sales from last year led by lower truck sales. On an unadjusted basis, sales grew 3.4%. The company's April sales slipped 4.5% to 217,700 from the year earlier month. The Toyota Division's sales fell 2.7% to 194,350 units for April, while Lexus Division's sales dropped 17.1% to 23,350 units over the year-ago month. Commenting on the April sales number, Toyota Motor Sales president Jim Lentz said, “Smaller vehicles are going over big. With oil prices at record levels, compact cars and hybrids continue to lead the way.”
