It’s hard to tell exactly how many individual websites are in existence, but according to a Netcraft survey (http://news.netcraft. com), there are about 170 million. Using easy web-authoring tools and templates, almost anyone can create a website, and new ones come online at a staggering rate of more than three million per month. Within this massive collection of websites there are some that are stunningly creative, or showpieces of technology, or spiritually moving, or all of the above. The problem is finding them, which is why it’s fortunate that there are the Webby Awards.

Some car folk have asserted, with a hint of sincerity, that the greenest car ever sold is the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Of 38,000 Silver Shadow variants built between 1965 and 1980, some 90 percent are still registered and roadworthy.
By this measure of greenness, Aston Martins and Ferraris probably run a close second, though it’s a safe bet that more of those have been wrecked. As counterpoint to these enduring automobiles, the National Automobile Dealers Association reports that 12 million cars and trucks were scrapped in the United States in 2006. “Scrapped” in this context covers a range of possibilities, from systematically recycled to submerged in country ponds.
In a thoughtful debate on environmental impact, few will hold fast to the notion that a Silver Shadow is the greenest car. But the point is taken. With attention focused on sexy propulsion sources, considerations such as manufacturing, duty cycle and disposal get lost in the roar. Does anyone really know what the most ecologically friendly car is?

LOS ANGELES, April 22 /PRNewswire/ — As if he was shot out of a cannon, Toyota-United’s Ivan Dominguez, affectionately known as the “Cuban Missile,” won yesterday’s opening 70.4 mile stage 1 of the 2008 Tour de Georgia Presented by AT&T. 119 riders contested the race, which was held in sunny mild conditions on a mostly flat circuit. Ivan Stevic from Toyota-United was in an early breakaway of six riders that never gained more than a minute advantage over the field for most of the race. “With 8 kilometers to go, the Pro Tour teams formed an alliance and drove hard to catch the leaders. Our guys were waiting in the wings to spring Dominguez to the finish if Stevic’s group was caught,” said Len Pettyjohn Team Director for Toyota-United. With 1,000 meters to go, Henk Vogels the team captain of Toyota-United led the charge with Dominique Rollin, Ivan Dominguez and Hilton Clarke on his wheel to set up the sprint for Dominguez. “Henk put us in a perfect position and took me to 500 meters where I let loose with everything I had to deliver Ivan as close to the finish as possible before he blew past me with 200 meters to go and easily won,” said teammate Dominique Rollin.

It was billed as “the fast and the famous” and it lived up to expectations, as ESPN pit reporter Jamie Little held off NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Mike Skinner by .324 seconds in race-modified Scion tCs to take the checkered flag first in the 32nd Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. Skinner is a repeat winner in the Pro Category.
“When you interview a winning driver after the race, they always tell you how they just try to get through that last lap,” gushed Little. “Well, now I know exactly what they’re talking about.”
