April 8, 2008 - Torrance, CA - Scion today announced it will drift the RS*R Scion tC in Formula Drift events this year.
Scion’s drift car is based on its most popular model, the tC sports coupe. The factory built front-wheel drive tC turned into a drifting contender through a rear-wheel drive conversion performed by acclaimed exhaust and suspension manufacturer, RS*R. The tC shares its platform with Toyota’s Japanese market Avensis four-wheel drive and Caldina all-wheel drive, enabling it to undergo the conversion. RS*R used its extensive performance shop experience to change the tC’s stock transverse engine configuration to a longitudinal setup in order to drive power, through the transmission and drive shaft, directly to the rear wheels.

We’ve enjoyed our fair share of front-wheel-drive hijinks in empty parking lots with our right hand firmly grasping the e-brake, but in the end, tail-out antics are always more enjoyable behind the wheel of something with the proper wheels driven. “Proper,” however, isn’t the way we’d describe how Scion decided to go about campaigning a tC in this year’s Formula Drift series.

John Salley, Drew Lachey, Raymond Cruz, Wilmer Valderrama and Eric Dickerson Among the Stars Set to Get Behind the Wheel of Race-Ready Scion tCs for Charity on Saturday, April 19
An eclectic roster of stars of film, television and sports will strap into brand new race-ready Scion tCs to vie for the checkered flag in the world’s longest-running, most successful celebrity racing event: the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race on Saturday, April 19, part of the 34th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
The field of 18 is revved up for competition in this historic, 10-lap race for charity on a 1.97-mile street circuit through the downtown streets of Long Beach in Southern California. The Pro/Celebrity race, one of six featured events during race weekend, gives fans a chance to see their favorite stars duke it out on the track during exciting action-packed competition.

A forum member over at ScionLife took his Scion xB to the dealer for a technical service bulletin issue this past week and got a call no car owner ever wants to receive. Somehow, the dealer managed to set his car on fire. The customized xB was totaled in the blaze and the Scion dealer has promised to replace the xB. Although there’s no word on the aftermarket parts destroyed in the fire, we’re assuming they’ll be replacing those as well..
