Toyota Brand Will Appear In ‘Mock Commercial’ During Each Second-Season Episode

Toyota’s Scion will serve as the exclusive second-season sponsor for Adult Swim’s Assy McGee, in a campaign that will feature a custom “mock commercial” integrated into the middle of each show episode all for the entire season.

Season two of Assy McGee premieres on Adult Swim on Sunday, April 6 at 12:30 a.m. ET.

Assy McGee, an animated series from executive producers Carl Adams of Clambake Animation and Matt Harrigan, tells the story of a hardboiled cop with a bad attitude and an itchy trigger finger. Assy is reckless, violent and has been known to break the law—or shoot someone—to keep the investigation going. But he also is a great cop, able to get his man one way or another. Working alongside Assy is his partner Det. Don Sanchez, while The Chief always seems to be on Assy’s case.

If you are in college or are a recent graduate, then you are just the type of consumer Scion wants — young, energetic, and full of fresh ideas.

Scion is the “youth brand” for Toyota, a line of vehicles inspired and designed by young people in a bid by Toyota to capture new consumers. The thinking here is that if you like Scion, then you’ll move up to Toyota when you have been working for a few years or have started a family. Lexus is for people who have arrived and desire high-end, refined driving.

I like the retro design movement just as much as the next guy, but Scion got it backward with the Hako Coupe. It’s put the front in the back, and the back in the front. When I was studying animal behavior in college my teacher cited an interesting experiment where a silhouette of a bird was shown to goslings. When shown flying in one direction with the longer portion ahead of the wings (looking like a goose), the animals didn’t react. But when shown flying in the same direction with the smallest section ahead of the wings (looking like a hawk) the animals reacted to the threat. Read the rest of this entry »

LOS ANGELES, CA–(Marketwire - March 26, 2008) - The cheapest car to buy doesn’t necessarily come with the cheapest insurance rate, according to a new analysis by the Automobile Club of Southern California comparing car prices with estimated insurance premiums from its insurance affiliate.

The analysis, conducted by the Auto Club’s Automotive Research Center, lists the ten least expensive and ten most expensive new cars to insure with an MSRP of under $50,000 as well as SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans. The least expensive car to insure was the 2007 Toyota Scion xD, which lists for $14,000 and has a total premium of $1,104. The most expensive vehicle is the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette, listing at $44,170 and insuring for $2,039.

A Japanese interpretation of an American hotrod may seem a strange recipe for Toyota’s latest vehicle.

But the Scion Hako, a boxy, two-door concept car unveiled at the New York auto show last week, shows that the normally cautious Japanese carmaker is not averse to some risky bets with its youth-oriented brand.
